Traduction et trompe-l’œil : les versions ibériques de La vie mode d’emploi de Georges Perec

Résumé

La vie mode d'emploi de Georges Perec (1978) est un roman oulipien, écrit à partir d'un système de contraintes formelles. Il fonctionne du point de vue pragmatique comme un trompe-l'œil pictural. Les traductions ibériques de ce roman adoptent des principes de traduction différents, basés sur le respect / non respect du mode d'écriture du roman : traduction « oulipienne » (catalane) / traduction « de surface » (portugaise et espagnole). On constate que le roman oblige à une réflexion sur la traduction, inscrite dans le texte d'arrivée, indépendamment des principes choisis par les traducteurs. Par ailleurs, des concepts habituels en Théorie de la Traduction (fidélité, littéralité, équivalence, traductibilité etc.) se révèlent assez improductifs et ambigus pour réfléchir sur ce type de textes, qui se basent sur l'instabilité des perceptions et la contestation des habitudes de lecture dominantes.

Abstract

The starting point of La vie mode d'emploi , a french novel by Georges Perec (1978) was a system of formal constraints which works to the reader as a pictorial trompe-l'oeil . The Iberian translations of this novel have adopted different strategies based on the respect/non-respect of the writing strategies of the source text, giving rise to an “oulipian” translation (the catalan one) and 2 “surface” translations (one Portuguese and the other Spanish). It may be observed that this novel brings about a reflection on translation, accomplished by each translator. These reflections are inscribed within the target texts, whatever the Translators' strategies could have been at the beginning. Most of the usual concepts of Translation Studies (like fidelity, literality, equivalence, translatability, etc.) appear to be quite inefficient and ambiguous to analyse this kind of texts, which are based on perception's instability and on the subversion of reading habits.
