Abstract
The aim of this article is to understand the effects of skill development practices on adaptive performance, through the satisfaction of the basic needs. Partial Least Squares techniques have been applied to data collected from a study led in 2015 on a sample of 161 Romanian employees in the automotive industry. Our results show that skill development is positively correlated to adaptive performance, with a partial mediation of the satisfaction of the basic needs. Development on a position would then make an employee more inclined towards taking unusual roles induced by the management of an organizational change.
