Résumé
L’objectif de cette étude est d’explorer les parcours d’étudiants universitaires en lien avec l’insécurité linguistique et les discriminations linguistiques (glottophobie) en Ontario français. À notre connaissance, aucune étude canadienne n’a étudié conjointement ces deux problématiques. Plus de 131 étudiants de la région d’Ottawa ont participé à une enquête en ligne. Au cours des trois dernières années, plus de 43 % des participants ont été victimes ou témoins d’une discrimination linguistique. Concernant l’insécurité linguistique, ils étaient plus de 30 % à avoir adopté des comportements d’autocensure à la suite d’une discrimination linguistique. En conclusion, les accents et les variétés de langue et de normes linguistiques au sein de l’espace francophone ne doivent pas conduire à des discriminations linguistiques ou provoquer de l’insécurité linguistique. Un dispositif de vigilance est nécessaire afin d’assurer in fine la pérennité de la langue française en Ontario.

Abstract
The objective of this study is to explore the experiences of university students in relation with respect to linguistic insecurity and linguistic discrimination (glottophobia) in Ontario. To the best of our knowledge, no Canadian study has jointly studied these two issues. More than 131 students from Ottawa took part in an online survey. Over the past three years, more than 43% of the participants have experienced or witnessed linguistic discrimination. Regarding linguistic insecurity, over 30% had engaged in self-censorship as a result of linguistic discrimination. In conclusion, the accents and varieties of language and linguistic norms within the Francophone space should not lead to linguistic discrimination or cause linguistic insecurity. Vigilance is required to ensure the sustainability of the French language in Ontario.
