Resumen
Rafael F. Muñoz publicó durante el auge de la narrativa de la Revolución mexicana y la generación del macho como representante nacional. Este artículo analiza una selección de cuentos donde la masculinidad en combate se lee como ideal nacional y nivelador político desde los conceptos de espectacularidad y gestualidad. Además, analiza dos cuentos excepcionales con hombres que no combaten e incumplen las expectativas de virilidad. En ellos, Muñoz presenta el riesgo de una masculinidad hecha de gestos superficiales, y usa el despojo de los atributos viriles para revelar la vulnerabilidad de las víctimas y el costo de la violencia civil.

Abstract
Rafael F. Muñoz published during the heyday of the literature of the Mexican Revolution and the generation of the “macho” as national representative. This article analyzes a selection of short stories where masculinity in combat is read as national ideal and political equalizer, using spectacle and gesture as key concepts. The article likewise analyzes two exceptional short stories of non-fighting men who fail to fulfill the expectations of virility. Here, Muñoz presents the risks of a masculinity composed of superficial gestures, using the stripping of virile attributes to reveal the vulnerability of victims and the cost of civil violence.
