OPHTALMOLOGISTES, OPTOMÉTRISTES ET OPTICIENS D’ORDONNANCES : CHAMPS D’EXERCICE ET CONFLITS INTERPROFESSIONNELS

Résumé

Cet article examine les champs d’exercice exclusifs des médecins (ophtalmologistes), des optométristes et des opticiens d’ordonnances. L’auteur constate l’existence de plusieurs conflits interprofessionnels générés tant par la concomitance de ces champs d’activités que par l’attitude des corporations professionnelles les unes envers les autres. La nécessité de protéger la clientèle et la liberté d’exercer une profession sont invoquées par les ordres professionnels pour justifier certains actes posés par leurs membres. Quelques propositions sont formulées par l’auteur pour en arriver à une solution à ces différends.

Abstract

This article deals with the specific fields of activities of physicians (ophtalmologists), optometrists and opticians. The author identifies many conflicts between these professionals resulting from the overlapping of their fields of activities and from the corporations negative interrelationships. To justify some of the actions of their members, the professional corporations refer to the need to protect the interests of their patients and to the liberty to exercise a profession. The author suggests a number of solutions to those problems.
