Abstract
This article should be read as an annex containing practical illustrations of the arguments presented by Michel Sénécal in the preceding article. The community radios of Québec are an excellent example of the way that local initiatives are coordinated and organized by the State.
The article begins with a description of a neighbourhood radio station in east Montréal which is particularly concerned with the issue of community control.
The aims of the Québec Association of Community Radios are then explained and an interview with one of the government functionaries responsible for the aid and development of community radios is presented. Although these two sources of information are officialy separate, one cannot but help noticing the degree to which they seem to see things in the same way.
The article then turns to look at the official government policy concerning community radios which emphasizes the political determination to participate in the development of a social and cultural identiy for Québec. Here we see how the nationalist objectives of the government try to link up with the communities.
