Femmes immigrées et reproduction sociale

Résumé

L'auteure met en lumière quelques aspects de la reproduction sociale dans le contexte de l'intégration des mères immigrées à la société québécoise. Elle présente en première partie une analyse des caractéristiques sociodémographiques des femmes immigrées vivant au Québec pendant les années 1980. La seconde partie de l'exposé propose un bilan de la recherche sur cette question, notamment une analyse des facteurs d'insertion et les mécanismes d'adaptation par lesquels se fait la socialisation dans le milieu d'accueil. L'article fait ressortir la complexité de la dynamique insertion/reproduction sociale et la nécessité d'établir des liens entre les objectifs de la socialisation et la mobilité sociale.

Abstract

The author sheds light on a few aspects of social reproduction in the context of the integration of immigrant mothers within Quebec society. In the first part, she presents an analysis of the sociodemographic characteristics of immigrant women living in Quebec during the 1980's. The second part of the presentation provides an assessment of the research on this issue, particularly an analysis of the insertion factors and adaptation mechanisms upon which socialization is based in the adoptive community. The article brings out the complexity of the social reproduction-insertion dynamic and the need to establish links between the objectives of socialization and the theory of social mobility.
