Des moulins à vent en Nouvelle-France

RÉSUMÉ

Ce document donne un aperçu court et précis de ce que fut la plus belle machine construite et exploitée par les premiers habitants de la Nouvelle-France. En effet le moulin à vent, l’antique meunerie, qui semble bien oublié aujourd’hui, a vécu des heures de gloire en Nouvelle-France. C’est pourquoi il trouve plaisir à chercher et retrouver les connaissances technologiques qui, accumulées au cours des siècles, permettaient de construire ces machines simples et pourtant si perfectionnées. Son intention dans ce texte est de vous faire connaître et apprécier l’ingéniosité et la très grande habileté des «millwrights» d’autrefois.

ABSTRACT

This article provides a short and clear account of the most beautiful machine built and used by the first settlers of New France. In fact, the windmill, the ancient grist mill, nearly forgotten today, had its moment of glory in New France. Thus, it is a pleasure to rediscover the technological knowledge, accumulated over many centuries, that allowed for the construction of such simple yet sophisticated machines. The aim of this study to allow the reader to gain a knowledge and an appreciation of the ingenuity and great skill of the millwrights of old.
