II ne semble ni possible ni souhaitable de cacher la mort à l'enfant. Cette réalité fait partie de la vie et tôt ou tard l'enfant aura à y faire face. Une attitude naturelle peut aider l'enfant à connaître la mort graduellement et sans trop d'angoisse. Pour être capable d'écouter l'enfant et de répondre à ses questions, l'adulte doit apprendre à reconnaître sa propre angoisse face à la mort et il doit pouvoir en parler librement. Cette attitude franche et ouverte facilite grandement le dialogue avec l'enfant lorsqu'il devient malade ou lorsqu'il perd un être aimé.
SUMMARY
It seems neither possible nor desirable to hide death from the child. This element of reality is a pant of life, and sooner or later the child will have to face it. A natural attitude can help the child to become aware of death gradually and without too much anguish. To be able to listen to the child and to reply to his questions, the adult must learn to recognize his own anguish in relation to death, and be able to speak openly of it. Such a frank and open attitude greatly facilitates dialogue with the child when he becomes sick or when he loses a loved one.
