Le jeune adulte occupe une place importante dans notre réseau de soins de santé et pose actuellement problème aux intervenants en psychiatrie. Âgé de 18 à 35 ans, il doit composer avec des politiques de soins à court terme visant Ia désinstitutionnalisation, lesquelles ne répondent que partiellement à ses problèmes et besoins. Cet article traite de ce jeune adulte, d'un centre de traitement aux États-Unis ayant développé une expertise dans ce domaine et d'un projet d'interventions cliniques initié au Centre hospitalier Louis-H. Lafontaine.

SUMMARY

Young Adults represent a significant proportion of health care beneficiaries; in the field of psychiatry, their proportion is as significant as it is troublesome for those dispensing care. Young Adults aged 18 to 35 must rely on short-term health care policies that stress deinstitutionalization as the final goal; in short, they must deal with solutions that only partially address their problems and needs. This article focuses on Young Adults on a treatment center in the U.S.A. that specializes in this area and on a project of clinical intervention introduced by Louis-H. Lafon-taine Hospital.
