Résumé

Cet essai entend offrir un schéma d'analyse du catholicisme italien contemporain. En partant d'une étude critique du rapport catholicisme-société italienne, comme si le catholicisme constituait le simple reflet de la connotation méditerranéenne spécifique, l'auteur estime qu'un tel catholicisme présente, jusqu'au Concile, un caractère ecclé-siocentrique, hiérocratique et institutionnel. À l'issue de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l'Église assume, au sein de la profonde crise des institutions politiques, une fonction de plausibilité sociale supplétive. Elle apparaît non seulement comme le principe d'organisation et de guide, mais aussi comme celui de mobilisation des ressources individuelles. Avec le concile Vatican II, jusque dans la moitié des années soixante-dix, la structure pyramidale du catholicisme subit de nombreuses transformations.

L'Église passe d'une structure segmentée à une structure stratifiée et enfin elle apparaît toujours plus caractérisée par des formes de différenciation fonctionnelle. Cet essai, sur la base des recherches les plus récentes, représente donc un analyse du présent dans le cadre d'une optique historico-sociologique.

Summary

This paper proposes an analytical framework for contemporary Italian Catholicism. On the basis of a critical study of the relationship between Catholicism and Italian society, as if Catholicism constituted the simple reflection of a specific Mediterranean connotation, the author considers that, until the Council, this Catholicism exhibited an ecclesio-centric, hierocratic and institutional character. At the end of World War II, the Church assumed, within the profound crisis in political institutions, the function of substitute social plausibility. It appeared not only as the organizing principle and guide, but also as the principle for the mobilization of individual resources. With the Vatican II Council, up until the second half of the 1970s, the pyramidal structure of Catholicism underwent numerous transformations. The Church went from a segmented structure to a stratified one and, finally, still appears more characterized by forms of functional differentiation. Based on the most recent research, this paper represents, therefore, an analysis of the present situation from a historical-sociological perspective.

Este ensayo quiere ofrecer un esquema de análisis del catolicismo italiano contemporáneo. Partiendo de un estudio crítico de la relación catolicismo-sociedad italiana, como si el catolicismo constituyera el simple reflejo de la connotación mediterránea especifica, el autor estima que un tal catolicismo presenta, hasta el Concilio, un carácter eclesiocéntrjco, hierocrático e institucional. Al término de la segunda guerra mundial, la Iglesia asume, al interior de la profunda crisis de las instituciones políticas, una función de plausibilidad social suplente. Ella aparece no sólo como el principio de organización y de guía, sino que también como aquel de la mobilización de los recursos individuales. Con el Concilio Vaticano II, hasta la mitad de los años setenta, la estructura piramidal del catolicismo sufre numerosas transformaciones. La Iglesia pasa de una estructura segmentada a una estructura estratificada y al fin ella aparece siempre caracterizada por formas de diferenciación funcional.
