AB - On the ten years anniversary of his disappearance, this article reviews the entire work of André Gorz (1923‑2007), proposing a four-part periodization: analytical existentialism (1946/1955), an attempt to rebuild socialism (1959/1969), and then to move beyond it (1973/1983) before returning to Marxism on the grounds of the Grundrisse and information technology (1983/2007). We show the consistency of a philosopher who never renounced the assessment of the emancipatory potential offered by his time. However, Gorz left out what ecology involved questioning about modernity.
