AB - This article proposes to explore the importance of religion as a vector for understanding the medieval world. With a view to enriching the exchange between disciplines interested in religious phenomena, it wishes to familiarize students and researchers outside the field of medieval history with some past and current research trends, including works interested in a study of the religious at the intersection of politics and social issues. Focusing on early medieval times, the contribution further develops on this idea by offering some perspectives for the research on hagiography and the history of the cult of saints and the history of liturgy.
