Christian Morel proposes an examination of several decisions that led to major (or less serious) catastrophes. Because he tries to show the biases, notably cognitive, that interfered with the actors’ judgment, we might be tempted to classify this work among the determinist approaches. However, his book convinces us that other actors could have made other decisions; that even the actors in question could have chosen other paths. In the end, these catastrophes, that we may understand after the fact, were far from necessary, were even sometimes highly improbable and finally, largely unforeseeable.
