Busking can produce positive atmospheres in public spaces through diverse social relations that, in addition to the music itself, can contribute to a sense of wellbeing among the urban populace. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the value of music and live performances in terms of their positive impact on well-being. This article analyzes the situation of buskers during the pandemic and gives insight into their subjective realities. Using the example of New York musician Colin Huggins, known as “the piano man of Washington Square Park,” the author highlights buskers’ dependence on governmental and societal support to sustain both well-being and music cultures in public spaces.

This text proposes a reflection on relationships of love in today's society from a Simmelian perspective, with a focus on a specific phenomenon: migration for love. Since the 1990s love-motivated migration has emerged in the discussion of the growing importance of social networks and new technologies. Using this social phenomenon that links love and migration as a strating point, the aim is to discuss its relation to some Simmelian concepts such as bonding, cohesion and sociability. This work highlights that migration for love is a typical example of a modern society in which individuals have had to seek new ways to relate and to love, which in turn affect living as a couple and building sentimental projects.

This special issue looks at partnership approaches to innovation thanks to recent developments in ICT, which enable the acquisition and transfer of skills, thus changing the processes and organization of firms. It is therefore essential to understand how ICT is used to establish internal and external collaborations for innovation. For this reason, we first examine the ICT used for innovation collaborations and how they contribute to the innovation process. The five articles then examine the effectiveness of ICT in three internal collaborations and two innovation partnerships. Finally, we propose a number of avenues for further research to better understand how ICTs and their use modify the way innovation takes place and the underlying organizational processes.

This article examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the field of education and explores its benefits and challenges. The use of AI in the education sector offers many advantages such as the automation of repetitive administrative tasks and the personalisation of learning paths. However, this raises ethical concerns about the protection of personal data and the risk of creating algorithmic biases. In addition, we address other challenges: those related to the opposition between automated and human assessment as well as the complex implications of facial recognition in an educational context. It is essential that a considered and ethical approach to the deployment of AI in education is thought through, emphasising the need for clear and transparent ethical principles and careful pedagogical reflection. We recommend the use of open-source AI tools to promote transparency and compliance with current regulations.

This study aimed to investigate the correlations between the Cinderella complex — the desire in a woman sto be cared for and protected by another person, particularly a man — and each of two factors: adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and the meaning and purpose of life. Designed as web-based cross-sectional research, the study was conducted from March 2022 to June 2022. The data were collected via social media platforms, with 356 women participating. The instruments used were a personal information form, the Cinderella Complex Scale, the Turkish ACE-TR questionnaire, and the Meaning and Purpose of Life Scale. Means of scores obtained by participant women from the Cinderella Complex Scale, the ACE-TR questionnaire, and the Meaning and Purpose of Life Scale were successively 66.37±22.77, 1.28±1.71, and 65.13±10.35 points. Women's average scores on the Cinderella Complex Scale and ACE-TR Scale were low, and their average scores on the Meaning and Purpose of Life Scale were high. Participants’ descriptive characteristics — education level, employment status, spouse’s education level, and family type — affected their Cinderella Complex Scale scores, while their ACE-TR scores had no statistically significant effect. There is a significant relationship between scores on the Cinderella Complex Scale and scores on the Meaning and Purpose of Life Scale. To avoid developing a Cinderella complex, it is recommended that women adopt a wider perspective on life, continually upgrade their skills, become more independent in their thoughts and actions, and create a personal space where they can spend quality time in order to find more meaning in life.

This article is part of a PhD research and investigates the impact of rapid technological evolution, focusing on the adoption of smart mobile devices (SMD), such as smartphones, tablets and laptops, and applications (app) in the personal lives of higher education professors in the area of Information Science. In addition, gaps are identified in existing research, emphasizing the need to understand how SMD is used in personal activities for personal knowledge management (PKM) practices and infocommunication. Specific objectives include identifying the most commonly used SMDs and apps, the frequency of such use, and how they are used for those practices. The methodology is qualitative, triangulating the integrative review with a questionnaire (N-10). The results point to interest in device ecologies for PKM and Info-communication, with communication apps (text and voice) and e-mail being the most important for teachers. It is hoped that the results of this study can contribute to the advancement of knowledge about the use of SMD by teachers and to the development of a generic descriptive model of infocommunicational behaviour and PKM that can be applied in other contexts.

Researchers in humanitarian settings increasingly encourage refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) to participate within broader research processes, beyond solely providing data. However, efforts to increase participation in research may be tokenistic, complicated by the challenges present in humanitarian settings. The assumption that more participation is always good has meant sometimes limited reflection occurs on the challenges associated with such participation. This study explores the possibilities and realities for refugee and IDP participation in research based on interviews with practitioners and academics who conduct participatory research with refugees and IDPs. It discusses lack of consensus in defining participation and explores five risks of participation that challenge the assumption that participation is always desirable and appropriate.

Background: Black students and residents experience racism in medical school. This qualitative study documents Black students’ and residents’ experiences of racism using Critical Race Theory (CRT) and explores their coping mechanisms using the theatrical metaphor. Methods: We conducted semi-structured interviews with four Black medical students and residents (two medical students and two residents) studying in Montréal and analyzed their experiences through counter-stories. We identified themes related to their experiences of racism during medical training and their coping mechanisms. Results: Our analysis reveals these experiences of racism occur in academic and clinical settings (classes, internships, social interactions with peers, faculty, and patients, and through the curriculum), in the form of microaggressions. The analysis also indicates that Black students and residents try to cope with racism using a hyper-ritualization strategy to better fit in (e.g., clothing, behaviours). Conclusion: Considering that Black students and residents experience various forms of racism (subtle or explicit) during their medical training, these findings urge us to increase awareness about racism of students, residents, teachers and health care workers in universities and teaching hospitals. Pathways to increase the representation of Black students and residents seem to be part of the solution, but improving the learning environment must be a priority to improve racial justice in medical training in Québec.
