452.More information
Since 1989, field survey by Pierre Gouletquer's team records 1318 prehistoric sites in Finistère (Brittany, Western France). The purpose of the program « Mesolithic of Finistère : chronology and stratigraphy » was to order this lithic industries by typological attributes. 92 sites with over 30 artefacts and geometrical arrowheads can now be described now. A further selection of sites with varied topographical conditions led to excavations on five of them : La Villeneuve (Locunolé) in the middle of a canyon, La Trinité-Goarem-Lann (Melgven) in valleys and promontory, Kerliézoc (Plouvien) on a slope, La Presqu'île (Brennilis) actually destroyed by an artificial lake and Kerdunvel (Plourin-Ploudalmézeau) on a promontory. Prehistoric levels are not preserved but it is interesting to observe that site limits are often erosion limits. We can provide new technological informations on Middle Mesolithic (La Trinité-Goarem-Lann, La Villeneuve) and Final Mesolithic (La Presqu'île, Kerliézoc, Kerdunvel). We propose a simple method to investigate this kind ofsite, numerous but poorly known on the Armorican Massif.
