In the middle of the 9th century, the Vikings invaded the South of the Iberian peninsula (al-Andalus). The story of their invasions by the Arab chroniclers, compared with the archaelogical data, is of fundamental interest in the study of the way the area was settled: the article demonstrates that the population was sufficiently grat for the Vikings to have attacked it, but insufficiently protected, so that attack was easy.
