Seven monkeys were injected with 3H-thymidine (1 µc/gm bw). The testes from three monkeys were removed three hours after injection, and of the remaining four animals twelve days and three hours after injection. By using the relative duration of the stages of the cycle of the seminiferous epithelium (expressed as % of their frequency) and the percentage of tubular cross-sections containing the most evolved labelled germ cells, the duration of the cycle was calculated and found to be equal to 11.6 days. The learning effects under filtered and unfiltered listening conditions for ten severely hearing-impaired children were investigated using minimal pair distinctions. Significant learning occurred under both listening conditions, but there was no significant difference between performance with filtered and unfiltered speech. Subjects were able to learn distinctions based on gross spectral and durational cues, but no learning occurred when minimal pair distinctions depended on relatively subtle spectral differences. It was concluded that these deaf children did not have access to compensatory cues apparently used by hard-of-hearing adults in speech discrimination.  Read more

This thesis is an introduction to the ideas and attitudes of some of the women who participated in the Canadian campaign for woman's suffrage. The first chapter outlines briefly the activities of the suffragists and examines the reaction to the suffrage question of two representative women's organizations. Chapter II contains the arguments for and against woman's suffrage together with an ideological study of these arguments. The third chapter examines the suffragists' attitude toward the woman's role in society. Young rats were injected with 3H-fucose and sacrificed after various times. In electron microscopic radioautographs of duodenal villus columnar cells and hepatocyes, at 2 minutes after injection the label was localized mostly over the Golgi apparatus. By 20 minutes, label appeared at all cell surfaces and in lysosomes. It is interpreted that the fucose label was incorporated by the Golgi apparatus into glycoproteins which migrated to lysosomes and to all cell surfaces to be added to the cell coat.
