Les transmissions en direct de diverses oeuvres de la scène (opéra, théâtre, ballet, etc.) sont devenues monnaie courante depuis que la transition numérique a rendu la chose possible. Il semble toutefois y avoir souvent amalgame entre la prestation originelle, qui se déroule sur scène, et sa captation projetée sur grand écran, ce qui peut donner lieu à une confusion entre deux spectacles de nature pourtant bien différente. Ce livre, en s’appuyant en particulier sur le cas du Metropolitan Opera de New York, tente de répondre à quelques-unes des questions soulevées par ce nouveau phénomène qu’on appelle le « hors-film », venu brouiller les contours de la programmation standard des salles de cinéma.

Live transmissions of diverse stage performances (opera, theatre, ballet, etc.) have become common currency since the digital transition made such a thing possible. Nevertheless, it appears that there is a mixture of the original performance on stage and its capture projected onto the big screen, something which can give rise to confusion between two shows of a quite different nature. This book, drawing in particular on the case of the Metropolitan Opera of New York, will attempt to answer a few of the questions raised by this new phenomenon, the “live transmission,” which has blurred the contours of standard movie theatre programming.
