ABSTRACT
Extensive blmodal plutonlam accompanied and followed Che Acadian deformation In New Brunswick. These Acadian plutona define a Central Plutonic Belt, which Is largely confined to a terrain with an Acadian trend of 030*, and a Southern Plutonic Belt, which occurs within a structural province with an Acadian and Varlscan trend of 060".
It has been possible to classify the Acadian plutona north of the Avalonian Platform according to their structures, textures, field relationships, mineralogy, and chemical characteristics; supplemented by radiometric age dates. Plutonic rock types include: A-B a mafic-felalc association; C - syntectonic conallte and granodlorite; D - suacovlte-bearing; F - megacrystic granitoid*; H - equigranular blotlte granites; and E and G - 'transitional' granites.
The magmatiam, regardless of location, follows a common evolutionary trend and appears to comprise a sequence of intrusions from early Devonian to Carboniferous time with no significant break in the evolution. These characteristics along with the blmodal chemistry and the lack of compositional polarity suggest that the development of these Acadian plutona was not subductloa-related. A time-dependent process such as radioactive heating of a thickened crust is a more probable mechanism for their genesis.

Ces plutona acadlens definissent une zone intrusive centrale et une zone Intrusive meridional*: la premiere ae confine en grande partle dons une region qui presents une orientation acadlenne de 030* slors que la seconde se trouve a l'interleur d'une province structurale marquee par une orientation acadlenne et variaque de 060".
Au nord de la plate-forme avalonlenne, leaplutona acadlens ont pu St re classifies selon leurs structures, textures, relations de terrain atrial que leure caracterlsques mineraloglques et chlmiques, le tout Stant complete par dea datatlona radiometrlques. Lea roches intruslves comprennent: A-B une association mafique et felslque; C - une granodlorite et une tonalice ayntectonlques; D - roches Intruslves 1 muacovlte; F - gronl-toldes a blotite equigranulaire; et E et C - granites "de transition".
Peu lmporte l'endrolt, on observe une tendance evolutive commune ace magmatlsme qui samble comprendrs une suite d'intrusions, £voluonc sons interruption du Mvonien lnferleur au Carbonlflre. Ces caract£rlstlquee, en plus de Is blmodellte du chlmlsroe et de l'absence de polarlt! da composition, suggerent que ces plutons scs-delns ne furent pas formSs par subductlon. Pour engendrer ceux-cl, un processus lie au temps, tel que le re'chauffement radinset if d'une croute qui s'est epslsale, est plus probable.
