Cet article examine l’émergence du shatta en Martinique, un genre musical résultant de l’hybridation entre le dancehall jamaïcain et des traditions musicales locales telles que le bèlè et le twoubadouw haïtien. Né dans un contexte de revendications identitaires et de tensions sociales, le shatta constitue un espace de création et de résistance pour une jeunesse marginalisée. Cette étude propose une analyse historique du shatta, en insistant sur ses structures rythmiques, ses codes lexicaux et ses dispositifs performatifs.

This article explores the emergence of shatta music in Martinique, a genre born from the hybridization of Jamaican dancehall and local musical traditions such as bèlè and twoubadouw. Emerging in a context marked by social protest and identity struggles, shatta became a space of creativity and resistance for marginalized youth. This study offers a historical analysis of the genre, focusing on its rhythmic structures, lexical codes and performative practices.
