AB - The last two full length films by Chinese filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai, In the Mood for Love and 2046, can be appreciated as a unique narrative poem, continuing from one film to the other. This continuity isn’t presented as a sequel in the American tradition, but as the pursuit of a reflection that incessantly brings the artist back to the figures he had previously created. This mannered diptych relates the story of an unconsummated love and the obsession of its memory: an impossible past love leads to a series of possible affairs of which the past love tends to determine the outcome. The “aesthetic fiction” is the concept born from the intimate relationship between the work of fiction, the production of reality and the form of a memory.
