L’exposition du public à l’art

Résumé

Si la rupture entre les artistes et les « bourgeois » a caractérisé l’avant-garde moderne, dans la période postmoderne, les ratés du marché et la crise financière de l’État obligent les artistes à se tourner de nouveau vers un large public. S’il subsiste des incompréhensions entre les artistes et le public (à preuve, les controverses sur l’art actuel), on assiste à l’émergence d’une nouvelle idéologie et de pratiques qu’on pourrait qualifier d’« anti-rupture », porteuses d’ambivalence quant au statut de l’artiste. On dévoile — et valorise — le processus de création (art en direct, ateliers ouverts, improvisation, invitation aux répétitions, etc.), en même temps qu’on reconnaît la compétence artistique du public (prix du public, art interactif, etc.). Autant l’art va sur le terrain du public, autant il tente d’amener ce dernier sur le sien. À travers cela, on assiste à la remise en question des catégories et lieux de l’art (art populaire/d’avant-garde; régions/métropoles) dans une synthèse postmoderne.

Summary

While the rupture between artists and the "bourgeois" has marked the modern avant-garde in the postmodern era, market failures and the State's financial crisis are obliging artists to turn anew toward the public at large. And while there is a certain incomprehension in the relationship between artists and the public (witness the controversies surrounding current art), there is also emerging a new ideology and new practices that can be viewed as "anti-ruptures," carrying with them a certain ambivalence with respect to the status of the artist. The process of creation (live art, open workshops, improvisation, invitations to rehearsals, etc.) is being disclosed — and valorized — at the same time as the public's artistic competence (awards discerned by the public, interactive art, etc.) is being acknowledged. At one and the same time, art is stepping onto the public's terrain and attempting to draw the latter onto its own. This has produced a reconsideration of artistic categories and sites (popular art/avant-garde art, regions/metropolises.

Resumen

Si la ruptura entre los artistas y los «burgueses» ha caracterizado a la vanguardia moderna, en el período posmoderno, los fracasos del mercado y la crisis financiera del Estado obligan a los artistas a tornarse nuevamente hacia el gran público. Si bien persisten aún ciertas incomprensiones entre los artistas y el público (las controversias sobre el arte actual lo demuestran), nos encontramos frente a una nueva ideología y prácticas que podríamos calificar como «anti-rupturistas» que comportan una ambivalencia en cuanto al estatus del artista. Se despliega — y se valoriza — un proceso de creación (arte en directo, talleres abiertos, improvisación, invitación a los ensayos, etc.), al mismo tiempo que se reconoce la competencia artística del público (premio del público, arte interactivo, etc.). El arte se desplaza hacia el terreno del público pero, al mismo tiempo, trata de atraer a este último hacia su propio campo. De esta manera, se pone de manifiesto una tendencia a cuestionar las categorías y lugares del arte (arte popular/de vanguardia; provincias/metrópolis) en una síntesis posmoderna.
