An artist, archivist, historian, and art theoretician by training, the independ-ent curator Vincent Bonin has recently organized, alone or in collaboration, a series of exhibitions that shed light on a turning point in the history of Cana-dian contemporary art: the late 1960s and early 1970s. Bonin's principal sub-jects of reflection are discursive productions, the conditions for their expression and dissemination, and how they are received in a context in which the responsibilities and powers of ac-tors (artists, curators, conservators, critics, cultural workers, and others) are being redistributed. The a priori "not exhibitable" nature of this mate-rial, at least according to the conven-tional mechanisms of presentation of contemporary art, led Bonin to rede-fine exhibition practice, which he con-siders a research activity in its own right, based on a critical reflection on the phenomena of institutionalization in which it participates.

Artiste, archiviste, historien et théoricien d'art de formation, le commissaire indépendant Vincent Bonin a récemment organisé, seul ou en collaboration, une série d'expositions qui ausculte un moment charnière de l'histoire de l'art contemporain canadien, le tournant des années 1960-1970. Les productions discursives, leurs conditions d'énonciation et de diffusion, les modalités de leur réception dans un contexte où se jouait une redistribution des responsabilités et des pouvoirs des acteurs (artistes, conservateurs, commissaires, critiques, travailleurs culturels, etc.) constituent les principaux objets de réflexion de Bonin. Le caractère a priori « non exposable » de ce matériau, tout au moins selon les dispositifs convenus de présentation de l'art contemporain, amène le commissaire à redéfinir la pratique de l'exposition qu'il considère comme une activité de recherche à part entière, sous-tendue par une réflexion critique sur les phénomènes d'institutionnalisation dont elle participe.
