From the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea stretches a strip of land more or less six hundred kilometres wide, inhabited by more than sixty million people belonging to seven nations. For decades, the countries that comprise this region were a buffer zone against the USSR, and today they are becoming the European Union's buffer zone against clandestine immigration and trafficking of all sorts. We went along the border with these guards and foot or motorized patrols, which watch over the ramparts of the new Europe day after day.

The Linea de Confine movement in Emilie Romagne (northern Italy), both conceptual and empirical in its relationship with the territory, follows the lineage of Italian photography of the 1970s — with the work of Luigi Ghirri, Franco Vaccari, Ugo Mulas, and others who tried, in their time, to inventory both a highly symptomatic post-industrial landscape, and merchandise, as well as the minimalist materiality of photography. In their wake, the new generation practises a sort of anthropology of the "here" that resonates with a globalization, which it interiorizes on the "local" level, the only yardstick possible of proximity to human beings and to history.

Unsettled, de Scott Walden, est le produit d’un été passé à Terre-Neuve à photographier les vestiges de communautés côtières abandonnées, désolation qui fait suite à des programmes gouvernementaux cherchant à centraliser la population dispersée de la nouvelle province canadienne. Le livre qui en résulte, Places Lost: In Search of Newfoundland's Resettled Communities, réunit une quarantaine d’images reproduites en deux tons, de même que des photographies d’époque des communautés avant leur déplacement. En plus d’offrir des éléments historiques, le livre fait usage de la photographie pour transmettre le sentiment de perte de lieu évoqué par les traces physiques, ainsi que la manière dont les objets acquièrent du sens en recouvrant leurs vies passées.

Les mille et un visages d’Ottawa rassemble quelque 200 portraits d’Ottawa provenant de 78 créateurs d’images, présentés thématiquement afin d’interroger notre conception du portrait Non plus simplement description exacte des caractéristiques physiques ou représentation de la personnalité intérieure d’une personne, un portrait contemporain peut par exemple offrir une description des relations d’un individu avec son environnement social ou politique, une étude des frontières entre le spécifique et l'archétype ou une investigation de l'équilibre délicat entre le théâtral et l’intime.
