Résumé

Cet article examine les arguments selon lesquels les anciens esclaves Touaregs, les Bellah de Ménaka, envisagent la charia mise en oeuvre par les militants musulmans armés comme un correctif à un déséquilibre politique existant dans le nord du Mali. L’examen de ces arguments nous permet de lire le militantisme musulman contemporain comme un phénomène religieux réarticulant et exprimant les tensions politiques préexistantes, les conflits sociaux et le pluralisme religieux du Nord-Mali. Ainsi, l’article place le débat universitaire sur le pluralisme religieux et les conflits sociaux au nord du Sahel dans le contexte d’une guerre politico-religieuse transnationale.

Abstract

This article reflects on the arguments according to which the Tuareg former slaves, Bellah from/around Menaka resignified the chari’a rule implemented by Muslim activists as a corrective to an existing political imbalance in northern Mali. An examination of these arguments, I argue, allows us to view contemporary Muslim activism as a religious phenomenon that brings new ways of understanding politics, religious pluralism and social conflicts in the northern Sahel. As a result, the article places scholarly debates on religious pluralism and social conflicts in the northern Sahel in the context of increasingly transnational politics of religion.
