Résumé

Dans le roman de David Homel Un singe à Moscou, la judéité est sans doute l’instance dernière du récit. Mais elle joue de façon différente selon qu’il s’agit du personnage de Jack ou de celui de Sonja. Pour celui-là, qui confond foi messianique et foi révolutionnaire, elle apparaît comme une identité que l’on tente de resolidifier alors que pour celle-ci, mue par les mouvements contre-révolutionnaires du coeur, il s’agit d’une identité de réserve, double, à l’intérieur d’une autre, en abyme, empêchant la fixation. Ces deux visions contradictoires ne s’excluent peut-être pas, formant les deux faces d’une même réalité, la première désignant ce à quoi l’on ne peut échapper, la seconde ce par quoi l’on échappe.

Abstract

This article proposes to show how, in David Homel’s Sonja & Jack, judaity functions as a structuring element, although it works differently for each of the protagonists. For Jack, who confuses messianic and revolutionary faith, judaity appears as an identity that needs to be solidified, while for Sonja, moved by the heart’s counter-revolutionary pulses, it plays the role of an identity “in reserve,” working in the midst of another and which, on the contrary, prevents any definite fixation of identity. These two ways of considering judaity do not necessarily exclude one another; they might even be presented as the two sides of a same reality, the first pointing to that from which one cannot espace, the second, that through which one can escape.
