Les littératures des Amériques, à l'exception de la littérature des États-Unis, sont liées fortement à l'invention des identités nationales dans l'Europe du XIXe siècle et dans les Amériques. Elles reposent sur une volonté de fonder un consensus identitaire qui est quant à lui basé surtout sur un essentialisme dualiste tentant de gommer toute fracture intérieure, d'où leur contribution à l'exclusion des marginaux dans le grand essor de la modernité. À l'époque postmoderne / post-coloniale, cette insistance sur une épistémè hégelienne se dilue quelque peu et ouvre à une position levinasienne post-lacanienne considérant l'identité comme relationnelle et l'altérité comme intérieure. Dès lors, les marges deviennent légitimes et les textes intègrent de manière hybride les voix multiples qui se conjuguent avec la dynamique globalisante qui tend à redéfinir la place des États-nations.
Abstract
The literatures of the Americas (but less so in the United States) are deeply linked to the invention of nations in nineteenth century Europe and in the Americas. Literary productions are based upon the desire to impose a consensus grounded in a dualistic essentialism aiming at erasing any inner fracture. Thus, national literatures have contributed to the exclusion of marginals during the expansion of modernity. In the contemporary postmodern / postcolonial era, insisting upon this kind of hegelian épistémè tends to disappear and opens up to a levinasian post-lacanian perspective showing that identity is relational (and not essential) and that alterity is internal. Therefore, margins are becoming legitimate and texts integrate multiple and hybrid voices which blend with a global dynamic tending to redefine the role of the nation-states.
