Abstract
This article has two goals. On the one hand, it deals with the principles of the conception of recognition in Chapter IV-A of the Phenomenology of Spirit. On the other hand, it deals with the consequences of this conception for contemporary social and political philosophy. The first goal requires an analysis of the architecture of chapter IV-A and a study of the reformulations of what is said about recognition in Iena’s Realphilosophie. The first goal gives the opportunity to take into account contemporary debates about epistemology of recognition, about the role of conflicts in recognitive relations, and about the function of recognition in domination relations.
