Abstract
The author addresses re-performance as a mode of intergenerational reanimation of a feminist performance heritage (matrimoine), and interrogates the place of this legacy in the current practices and reflections of four artists : Oriana Fox (London, U.K.), Julie Châteauvert and Valérie Perron (Montréal), and Julie Lassonde (Toronto). The author also examines the institutionalisation of both performance art and « feminist art »; the ties between re-performance and a work’s canonical status; the nature of re-performers’ attachment to the source works they cite; and the nostalgia of militancy in art.
