Abstract
Although occupational therapist could play a key role in supporting individuals with intellectual disability (ID) during the mourning of a loved one, residential transitions, and end-of-life care, there is limited information available to guide occupational therapy practice through these life events. The aim of this scoping review was to provide an overview of the current knowledge regarding the potential roles of the occupational therapist in supporting individuals with ID through these three life events, often associated with their aging. Results highlight the contribution of occupational therapy within the interdisciplinary team working with individuals with ID. Using various assessment and intervention strategies, the occupational therapist can support individuals with ID in their optimal engagement in meaningful occupations and the fulfillment of valued social roles.
