Abstract
This article presents a research of the effects of parental intervention in reading on at-risk students’ letter knowledge and phonological awareness. Using a quasi-experimental research design, a group of parents was trained in developing letter names and sounds, while a second group served as a control group. Measures of letter names and sounds and of phonological awareness were noted before and after the training. The results show that the two groups showed statistically significant gains in letter knowledge. However, the students of the experimental group showed more progress in phonological awareness than did the control group
