The products of the A genes of bacteriophages Mu of Escherichia coli and D3112 of Pseudomonas aeruginosa are required for the transposition of the double-stranded DNA genomes of their respective phages. Mutant proteins of the multifunctional Mu transposase were constructed in vitro in order to locate regions of the enzyme that may be important for function. Deletions in the Mu A gene yielded two mutant proteins that help to define the end-specific DNA-binding domain. In the production of steel, the primary processes (coke making, Iron making and steelmaking) are carbon intense and is the major sources of carbon emissions. To drastically reduce the GHG emissions associated with the steel production, novel iron reduction technologies are required. Low temperature electrolysis of iron ore is one of such technical pathways to achieve net zero emissions in iron reduction. The Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Somatic (HPS) axis is the endogenous system through which our body secretes Growth Hormone (GH) in a regulated manner. The HPS axis has many levels of feedback; GH -Releasing Hormone (GHRH) and Somatostatin (SOM) not only regulate GH secretion, but also modulate each other. For example, GHRH neurons in the arcuate nucleus (ARC) display high expression of SOM receptor subtype 1 (sst1). Radio-labeled SOM has been shown to bind to the ARC in a rhythmic manner as well. Application of eye movement measurement is especially significant in Neuroscience. Results from eye tracking can give valuable insight into the correlation between neural activity and eye movements. This dissertation aims to demonstrate the importance of Al-Risāla al-Fatḥiyya (The Treatise of Conquest) in the history of theoretical astronomy (ʿilm al-hayʾa) in Islamic societies, especially in the Ottoman context. It was written by ʿAlī al-Qūshjī (d. 879/1474), one of the eminent scholars of his period, and dedicated to the Ottoman Sultan Meḥmed II to honor his victory over the Āq Qoyūnlū ruler Uzun Ḥasan in the Otlukbeli War in 878/1473. The purpose of this study was to examine whether focus groups with participation from key stakeholders in the community could identify specific areas that required change in a non-profit community organization. Findings would also provide important feedback for the Board of Directors of a non-profit community organization. Two focus groups were held. One group consisted of nine community stakeholders and in the second focus group six past users of the service participated. Participants gave their comments on program strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in a semi-structured interview using grounded theory in a qualitative format. The subject of oxygen atoms has a long history dating back to Becquerel. In 1859, he described a ‘long-lived luminous species’ produced when an electric current was passed through oxygen. In 1891, during an investigation of electrical discharges through various gases at low pressures, Thomson observed a luminous glow in oxygen which persisted ‘some considerable time’ after the electrical discharge had been interrupted. This study examines Ulysses as a response to the Irish Literary Revival's expectation that a native epic would crown Ireland's literary achievements and to the country's imminent independence under the Sinn Fein. Ulysses thematizes the compositional imperatives which Virgil's Aeneid made canonical for the national epic. This perspective reconfigures the legacy of Stephen Dedalus' heroic stance in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Arthur Griffith's arguments in The Resurrection of Hungary: A Parallel for Ireland (1904) through which Sinn Fein won national prominence. This study explores three syntactic issues in the Romanian DP: the cliticization of the definite article, the syntactic position of postnominal APs, and the syntactic properties and position of cel. First, I show that the affixation of the definite article can be derived by syntactic head movement of the host element to D0. The distributional asymmetries among adjectives with respect to the definite article are accounted for by hypothesizing that they occur in two structurally distinct positions. This study investigated the potential of developing in-season crop yield forecasting and mapping systems based on interpretation of airborne hyperspectral remote sensing imagery by machine learning algorithms. The data used for this study was obtained over a corn (Zea mays L.) field in eastern Canada. The experimental plots were set up at the Emile A. Lods Agronomy Research Center, Montreal, Quebec. Disruption of the epigenome and its components is a hallmark of all forms of cancer. Typically observed in cancer is an alteration of the DNA methylation pattern, with silencing of tumour suppressor genes, as well as an increase in DNA methyltransferase 1 (activity or expression). However it has yet to be determined exactly how DNMT1 increases in cancer and how this increase might serve as therapeutic target. Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile) is the most common cause of nosocomial antibiotic-associated diarrhea in developed countries and is classified as an urgent threat by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Most strains of C. difficile release toxins A (TcdA) and B (TcdB) that mediate disease. Annually, there are approximately 450,000 new cases and 29,000 deaths in the USA alone resulting in an economic burden of $5.4 billion dollar. The emergence of hypervirulent strains, notably NAP1/B1/027, in the 2000s and the relative inefficiency of current treatments against these strains highlight the need for a vaccine. This study examines the sixteenth-century English Reformation background of Spenser's Faerie Queene, Book 3. Recovering this material is not simply a matter of opening a Bible, for various groups in the period, both Catholic and Reformer, interpreted its passages differently. The Book's four primary female characters, Belphoebe, Florimell, Britomart and Amoret, embody different aspects of the virtue, and these come into sharper focus in the light of this background. Objectives. The purpose of this study was too determine whether there were significant kinematic differences between recreational and elite hockey players and between contra-lateral lower limbs during forward hockey skating. Methods. While skating on a hockey treadmill subjects were filmed with four synchronized digital video cameras while wearing reflective marker triads on the thighs, shanks and skates. Subjects skated within a calibrated volume at a self selected speed that they could maintain comfortably for one minute. Each subject completed three trials separated by 5 minutes of rest. La colonisation des voies respiratoires par les hyphes d'Aspergillus fumigatus chez des patients immunocompétents, mais avec une maladie pulmonaire chronique, entraîne le déclin progressif de la fonction des poumons. The incidences of endogenous viral genes (ev-genes) and myb-gene polymorphisms were determined in substrains of strains R, M and G which had been divergently selected or susceptibility to tumour formation induced by Rous Sarcoma virus (RSV) of type A and B. Frequencies of myb gene polymorphisms were also determined in two replicates of strains selected for high and low multiple immune response to challenge with Pasteurella multocida and Mycoplasma gallisepticum. Strains R, M and G were found to contain different sets of ev-genes reflecting their distinct genetic origins. In order to study sperm competition and mating dynamics in the snow crab Chionoecetes opilio, a genomic library was established with the goal of identifying highly polymorphic microsatellite markers. Six pairs of DNA primers were designed to amplify markers Cop3-4, Cop4-1, Cop5, Cop10, Cop24-3 and Cop111 by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). All markers produced patterns as expected from single loci inherited in a mendelian fashion, except for Cop5 which revealed a multi-locus banding pattern.
