When various glycolytic intermediates were used to substitute for the APT requirement for fatty acid synthesis from acetate, phosphoenolpyruvate, 2-phosphoglycerate, fructose-6-phosphate and glucose-6-phosphate each gave 48, 17, 23 and 17%, respectively, of the ATP-control activity. Rab proteins are a family of small Ras-like GTPases that regulate the vesicle transport during membrane trafficking. We present a new approach to eliminate array bounds checks in Java by using static analyses. Our approach is based upon a flow-sensitive intraprocedural analysis called variable constraint analysis (VCA). VCA collects constraints between locals related to array references. The array bounds check problem is formulated as solving a system of difference constraints. The analysis builds a small constraint graph for each important point in a method, and then computes the shortest-path weight of the graph. A novel dual-plasma process for the synthesis of organic layer-coated metal nanoparticles is presented. Metal nanoparticles are synthesized by the low-pressure pulsed arc evaporation of a metal cathode surface, followed by the in-flight deposition of a thin organic layer by capacitively-coupled radio-frequency (CCRF) plasma polymerization from a gaseous hydrocarbon monomer. The system is simple to operate and can be designed for high throughput. In this dissertation, the phenomenology of electromagnetic radiation and high transverse momentum jets in relativistic heavy ion collisions is investigated. These are two very important probes to study the strongly interacting matter at extreme temperatures and/or densities and to investigate the possibility of a phase transition between hadronic matter and quark-gluon plasma (QGP). First, a new channel of direct photon production from a charge-asymmetric QGP is explored in the effective theory of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) at high temperature. Four types of dolomites occur in the Middle Devonian Presqu'ile barrier: fine-crystalline, medium-crystalline, coarse-crystalline, and saddle. Fine-crystalline dolomite formed penecontemporaneously by Middle Devonian seawater, because it is interbedded with Muskeg anhydrite in the back-barrier facies, and has O and Sr isotopic values of Middle Devonian seawater signatures.
