    This article aims to show the vivid filiation of contemporary Innus with their prehistoric ancestors. One might think that this is an unnecessary task as today's innu language, in continuity with that of the 17th century, is still spoken. Yet, with the prevalent belief of the “vanished Indian” in historiography, one still has to demonstrate the mechanisms 1) by which the blindness towards the Other occurred and 2) by which the Innu society was maintained over time. Political organization was not a structure in the Innu society. Kinship and common cosmology rather sealed the social unity. Epidemics and wars heavily fell upon the Innus, yet probably less so than on their native neighbours. The Innus reacted to these dismantling factors by reunifying their families through adoption and assimilation of widowers and orphans.

    This study focuses on exploring, in the labour shortage context, the factors explaining employee retention in a Temiscamingue-Abitibi factory. A partial application of the Hopkins et collab. (2010) multidimensional personnel retention model was performed. The authors also looked into management practices aimed at employee involvement and loyalty, as well as in systems for managing high-performance work practices. More specifically, they were interested in the AMO (Ability-Motivation-Opportunity) model of Appelbaum et collab. (2000) aiming, through various interdependent practices, to strengthen skills, motivation and mobilization (Jiang et collab., 2012). It is research done according to a sequential mixed design (quantitative then qualitative). First, 50 employees were surveyed by a longitudinal questionnaire on their perception of various retention factors. Then, five semi-structured interviews were conducted with the organization managers on their human resources management practices. Integration of the quantitative descriptive results with the thematic analysis of the qualitative data indicates a general trend towards maintaining the employment link with the organization as well as satisfaction with the general working conditions and the psychological climate. This positive portrait is associated with HRM practices, according to a paternalistic strategy, promoting the sustained acquisition of skills, and the development and fulfilment of employees in various aspects. These practices have horizontal synergy and vertical coherence, with the strong values of the organization found in the views of the managers.

    For thirty years, Moncton's Centre culturel Aberdeen has been known to be a francophone space, dedicated to Acadian artistic creation and collaboration. In the present text, I will describe how this center serves as reclaimed territory in a minority setting, where English is the legitimate language on the local linguistic marketplace. I will show how the Centre, an Acadian cultural institution, contributes to the construction of an Acadian society, through regionalization, mediation between francophones and anglophones, and the establishment of a public voice for Acadian social actors. Then, I will regard the discourse of these social actors vis-à-vis their participation in the Canadian francophone artistic market. I propose that the challenges that the Centre faces in the era of globalization are emblematic of those experienced by other institutions and social actors in minority societies in Francophone Canada.

    The restructuring of Tunisian and Moroccan educational systems following the decolonization led to a dualistic system : on one hand, the neglected state education and on the other hand, a highly elitist public or private education for the ruling class of both countries. At the end of this elitist education in Tunisia or Morocco, one of the best ways for pursuing academic studies is the training given in France by the preparatory classes for entrance to the Grandes Ecoles. Two years of preparatory classes allow entrance to these Grande Ecoles by competitive examination. The presented study is the outcome of a research held in a Parisian boarding school, which welcomes young North African women in preparatory classes. The study emphasizes how the students gender is interlinked with their social class. The objective is to explore to what extent those studying orientations, driven by the strategies of the family, are modified or not by the students gender and the one of the relatives who have influenced them.
