The term Qom is the way the indigenous people known as Toba refer to themselves. They were a people who were living before the devastation generated by the conquest, with the settling and expansion of the nation state into the Southern Cone, the geographical region known as Gran Chaco. Migrations were one of numerous responses and/or resistance of the people in the face of white settlement. These processes involved profound existential changes, complex processes of ethnic redefinition and/or reaffirmation of identity that, in many cases, were expressed in urban spaces, redesigned in ethnic terms. An ethnographic study of the “Toba neighbourhoods” found at the edge of large cities permits an analysis of these spaces in relation to the territorial expression of social networks. It clarifies what is local and accounts for the complexity involved in new forms of organization and territoriality, resulting from access to urban land by indigenous migrants.

Our digital society contributes to social participation of many citizens. However, people with intellectual disability (ID) or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) must interact with a common digital environment unsuited to their needs. This fact refers to the digital exclusion. Unfortunately, in the field of ID and ASD few models are available to guide practitioners and researchers in the implementation of these technologies. Our team has developed a model presenting and integrating the challenges associated with their use. The pyramid of digital accessibility clearly identifies the dimensions that promote digital inclusion of these populations.

SummaryAs a feature of capitalist development, economic migration has historically entailed sex work as one of its components. In the age of globalization, this means a forced choice for many women, as they move from the village to the city in their own countries and across international borders. The present article focuses on the decision making process, the means of migration, and the experience in the urban site, national or international, of those -- the vast majority -- who have not been "trafficked", but have made this forced choice their life strategy. The impact on sex worker migration of customer "migration" in the form of sex tourism is discussed, along with the other economic and cultural factors.

This article reports the findings of efforts to become part of the fields of investigation by two research teams using the photovoice method. Based on the portrait painted by those who came before, this method has become a part of current practice in participative research-action, making it a judicious choice to help in understanding the needs of vulnerable youth and stimulating their power to act. Our experience with implementing this method with this population revealed various challenges, issues and questions that encouraged the first two authors to revisit what had been written on the subject. The results of our review reveal the presence of a practice that extensively adapts photovoice method when using it with vulnerable youth. However, these adaptations pose a risk of limiting the emancipating scope of the method. The also call into question the capacity of researchers and institutions to fully exploit it.

This paper questions the difference between child and adult considered as one of the main questions of contemporary educational issues. The question is particularly acute when the adult is an artist, when the relationship with the child is built on the grounds of art and aesthetics. Therefore the artistic residences with children can be considered as places where a new relationship with the child is experienced. The qualitative methodology points out the ways of thinking of artists caught by individual and collective interviews. Analysis shows that in the field of art and shared creation, the difference disappears in favor of equality within difference, whose different modalities are presented and discussed at the end of the paper.

AbstractThe objective of this article is to show the pertinence of a functional-structural approach to the study of mathematics school texts. This approach is based on three sources : Duval's theory of language functions, Jakobson's model of language functions in communication, and the model of semiotic structures developed by Richard. Following the presentation of the approach in the first part, the authors apply this to an analysis of two short texts taken from a geometry text used in French secondary schools in Québec. The adidactic objective that can be derived from these two texts shows how the semiotic means used can serve to improve the quality of communication with the future reader.

This article, presented in the form of an experiential narrative, reports on a project being conducted in a multi-age class of 26 students in a Montessori elementary school. The project consists of the students conducting an interview with an elderly family member and writing a narrative. First, we describe the place of oral history in the social science program at the elementary level. Second, we outline the theoretical framework that guides our research, which relates to the relevance and modalities of oral history in social science education, as well as the distinctions between life stories and historical narratives. In the third part, we report on the progress of the project and the first results. They concern the possible contributions of this type of approach to motivation and learning in social sciences.

This study traces the coverage of epidemics among First Nations in textbooks used for Québec's national history curricula in education, in secondary school (Histoire du Québec et du Canada, 1982-2006; Histoire et éducation à la citoyenneté, 2006-2017; Histoire du Québec et du Canada, since 2017), as well as in two indigenous textbooks. I conclude that only the Cree textbook offers a full account of the crucial historical impact of the “virgin soil epidemics”.
