The use of quantitative intercoder reliability measures in the analysis of qualitative research data has often generated acrimonious debates among researchers who view quantitative and qualitative research methodologies as incompatible due to their unique ontological and epistemological traditions. While these measures are invaluable in many contexts, critics point out that the use of such measures in qualitative analysis represents an attempt to import standards derived for positivist research. Guided by extant research and our experience in qualitative research, we argue that it is possible to develop a qualitative-based measure of intercoder reliability that is compatible with the interpretivist epistemological paradigm of qualitative research. We present eight qualitative research process-based guidelines for evaluating and reporting intercoder reliability in qualitative research and anticipate that these recommendations will particularly guide beginning researchers in the coding and analysis processes of qualitative data analysis.

COVID-19 restrictions have prompted many medical schools to shift to virtual interview methods for medical school applicant selection. While extensive reflection has been documented around both the process and benefits of transitioning to a virtual Multiple Mini Interview (V-MMI) format, less attention has been given to examining the unintended consequences of this adaptation on increasing representation from underrepresented groups. In this Black Ice article, we consider the equity implications of taking a virtual approach to conducting MMIs and present some practical tips to ensure medical schools are giving attention to and addressing equity issues that may affect applicant and assessor engagement and success. The following seven recommendations include actionable steps medical schools can take immediately to optimize the interview process. This guide can be adapted to residency matching services and other health professions education programs that utilize the MMI.

Introduction: The operationalization of nursing-sensitive performance measures has been highly variable. It results in measures that are sometimes suboptimal and difficult for managers and nurses to access. The objective is to propose a rigorous method for operationalizing nurse-sensitive performance measures based on routine data. Source of Information: The primary source of information for this article is an operationalization method adapted from a reporting guide and performance measure evaluation instrument. It includes 7 processes and 33 interrelated quality attributes. The application of this operationalization method was successfully tested in a university hospital. Discussion: Operationalization of nursing-sensitive performance measures is a complex process. This method is an original proposal that allows for the justification and argumentation of the choices made. We discuss how this method is a response to 3 methodological issues: (1) heterogeneous and poorly detailed operationalization methods; (2) critical attributes (e.g., relevance, scientific validity, feasibility) that lack consensus and (3) heterogeneous data architecture models. Implication and conclusion: This operationalization method provides a systematic and transparent approach to generating nursing-sensitive performance measures from routine data. It could improve their operationalization, facilitate their understanding and evaluation.

This paper will explore how the quest for the mother (whether the missing one of Gunn’s novel or the living one of Melfi’s memoir) leads the protagonists of both books to rediscover their mother tongue, that is a language based on communication and community building (Parmod, 2008), or as Kate defines it in Tracing Iris, a body language. It is through this language that both characters are able to challenge the patriarchal concept of motherhood and, in particular, the stereotype of the good versus the bad mother. The quest for the mother in both texts can be defined as a journey through the protagonists’ past that leads them also to problematize the notion of motherland. Significantly, both texts emphasize the idea of resurrection (the resurrection of the self) and their structures seem to mirror the trajectory identified by Podnieks and O’Reilly (2010) as representing the transition from daughter-centric to matrifocal narratives. Such narratives are effective tools in unmasking motherhood not only because they enable mothers to have a voice but also because they represent a different kind of mothering, the mothering of writing (Nayar 2008, p. 140). According to Nayar, textual mothering, by giving birth to stories and narratives, allows motherhood to be reinterpreted as a situation of power and identity (Nayar 2008, p. 140).

Drawing upon José Esteban Mufioz’s notion of queer futurity, this article examines the links between memory, food, and sexuality in Monica Meneghetti’s What the Mouth Wants: A Memoir of Food, Love and Belonging. The memoir depicts how embodiment and affect are imprinted in memory and recirculated through narratives of familial loss and queer awakenings. It is through physical and emotional nourishment in every sense of the word that the protagonist remembers a past that is both troubling and seductive, and looks toward a future that is both queer and utopic. I suggest that the author’s queer identity as a bisexual and polyamorous woman is expressed through the sensations of the flesh and through the affects that shape the world around her, and shaped by one eye toward an untenable queer past and one toward a queer utopic future.

In this article we will concentrate on listening comprehension skill in French Foreing Language. We really verify that this skill causes problems to students who doesn’t find in a total immersion situation. So, how can we solve it? For this reason, we wish to show different methods in teaching listening comprehension skills since the late 19th Century until now. On the other hand, we will explain how the resounding message comes throw students, which are the cognitive process running in this skill. Finally, we will review listening comprehension material that we can use in advanced levels of French Foreing Language, in particular, at the Autonomous National University of Mexico. In short, we will focus on the use of authentic documents. We will also see the possible activities from this support and the new technologies.

Modern art - although present in teaching - is often used in a tendentious and superficial manner and thus comforts the doxa. On the contrary, if used adequately, modern art pinpoints and counterbalances the cliché so present in language methods. We propose activities that make teaching and learning more efficient, pleasant and authentic.
