AbstractWalker's novels (Possessing the Secret of Joy, The Color Purple, The Temple of My Familiar) demonstrate the ability of the defeated as anti-heroes to resist oppression and invert signs. As an African American woman, she has managed to transform the heritage of the original alienation of slavery into an ultimate victory, that of the survival of a powerful voice against all odds. The “Walkerian” subject claims first his/her voice by moving away from the fanatic ideological discourse of the Black Power. Female characters build up by opposing the archaic mirage of the paternal function. Eventually, humour enables them to make a mockery of the arbitrariness of the sign by reappropriating language.

This article begins by the presentation of a large and inclusive definition of what are the trans* people. Built around the notions of biological sex, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation, this definition is then plac ed in relation to other important social markers (age, national origin/skin colour/religion, social strata and general appearance). All those variables are mobilized to help the reader understand the reasons why trans* people so frequently face misunderstanding and violence. This article concludes with pragmatic propositions suggested to States, Employers and Unions aimed at encouraging them to do all they can to make sure the rights of the trans* people are better respected on the labor and employment market.

This article explores the fact that the film How Not to Be Seen: A Fucking Didactic Educational .MOV File, beyond its absurd and humorous appearances, offers a reflection on two emerging concepts in video art, that of the threshold of visibility and the inforensic. To do this, the author traces the origin of the assembled images and problematizes their attachment to the histories of surveillance photography and cartography. He also examines the symbolic and metaphorical references which indicate the exchanges between the real and the virtual worlds.
