L'intégration omnicanale directive, collaborative et par l'empowerment dans les réseaux de franchise
More informationEntrepreneurial autonomy is a major feature of franchise networks that can conflict with the need for integration in an omnichannel marketing strategy. This article relies on practice theory to investigate franchisors' approaches to build omnichannel integration with franchisees. Multi-informant case studies in seven franchise networks highlighted three integration styles that are characterized by an increasing level of autonomy granted to franchisees: a directive style, based on a strong centralization of omnichannel choices and integration by the minimization of franchisees' autonomy; a collaborative style, based on omnichannel coconstruction with the franchisees and integration through its local appropriation; and an empowerment style, based on the empowerment of franchisees over omnichannel choices and trust-based integration.

This article examines Montreal's petroleum landscapes and their transformation, considering the political and urban planning context surrounding the establishment, growth and subsequent closure of refineries in Montreal's east end. Based on a comparison of the development of Montreal East and Anjou in the twentieth century, we show that the establishment of the oil industry created a path dependence in terms of economic development and spatial planning: the stronger its presence, the more difficult economic reconversion and environmental transition became. However, we also show that a functionalist type of development in Anjou has favoured a smoother economic transition and, more or less involuntarily, enabled certain environmental advances. Our aim is to nuance some of the criticisms levelled at post-war functionalist urban planning and to contribute to debates on the importance of local public policy and the capacity of municipalities to act.

In this article, we focus on the slogan Right fiers, chosen for the 2017 Canadian Francophone Games in Moncton-Dieppe (New Brunswick, Canada). Its linguistic legitimacy was contested as soon as it was unveiled, making it an object of public debate. In the French-Canadian community, borrowing a word from the other language can spark ideological debates. Nevertheless, two years after the Games, the Right fiers slogan still appeared in various discursive contexts, including some unrelated to the event it was created for. The aim of this article is to explain the longevity of the expression in the French-Canadian media. We demonstrate that the expression Right fiers gradually evolved from a slogan to a discursive formula, transformation which relies among other things on the linguistic polemic it caused from its official unveiling.

The COVID-19 pandemic has confirmed the central role of screens in our time. Providing protection and interaction at a time when the prevention of contagion was paramount, screens allow the security and organization of the private and public lives of millions of people. In the face of this legitimization, The Future of Screens brings together fourteen contributions from different disciplines – from philosophy to media theory, from film studies to theology – reflecting on the roles and forms that screens will take in the future. The centrality of screens to the way we perceive, imagine, act and experience the body, and to the social and political spheres, is explored from new, diverse and complementary perspectives.

The governance of artisanal gold panning is characterized, in most African countries, by informal practices. The Bili-Uéré Hunting Domain (DCBU), the largest protected area in the Democratic Republic of Congo (60,000 km2), is threatened by artisanal gold mining, the governance of which deserves to be questioned. This article aims to demonstrate how local survival requirements limit the application of national legislation in the governance of gold panning in the said area. To achieve this, data collection mobilized a triple input of methodological instruments including documentation, discourse (individual and group interviews) and direct observation. At the end of the data analysis, the results show that the governance of gold panning in the DCBU is characterized by a coexistence between national regulations and informal practices. This coexistence is due to the local socio-economic needs of the stakeholders, abandoned by the State in its sovereign functions. The actors involved in the governance of gold panning have thus developed systems of relationships around the issues linked to this activity. These results prove that the question of gold panning governance in the DCBU is complex because the stakeholder games are defined at all levels, notably national, provincial and local. At each of these levels, gold panning is based on very structured local governance, governed by the predominance of informal rules. A holistic response from the State and other stakeholders is therefore necessary to reconcile socio-economic concerns with the application of mining and forestry regulations.

This article proposes a systematic review on the multifaceted concept of “exogenous shock” in the field of international business (IB). The spread of shocks and the magnitude of their consequences are drawing the attention of IB researchers to how these rare, unpredictable and brutal phenomena are perceived and managed by firms operating abroad. This research, based on a content analysis of 176 articles, provides research trends with a definition, a typology of shocks as well as eight research avenues for future IB research.

The aim of this article is to illustrate the usefulness of automated linking methods for the study of French-Canadian migrations in Canada and the United States. It details the construction of a geolocated longitudinal sample of nearly 30,000 Catholic men from Quebec, derived from the linkage of the Canadian and American censuses of 1850–1852 and 1880–1881. This sample makes it possible to answer many questions about the composition of the French-Canadian diaspora as well as internal migration flows within Quebec. A link between the sample, which is made up of migrants and non-migrants, and aggregate agricultural census data suggests a negative association between the agricultural prosperity of the origin community and the propensity to migrate.
