The book by François-Olivier Dorais (2022) confronts the culturally constructed object that is the historical school of Université Laval with the object concretely restored. Dorais demonstrates that the École de Québec is not a school of thought, because it does not present a great degree of intellectual integration of its main representatives: Marcel Trudel, Jean Hamelin, and Fernand Ouellet. Its legacy is presented above all as a historiographical and methodological project of social and economic history practiced in a network of collaborations. This book provides an opportunity to reflect more broadly on the controversies shaking society, the world of academic research, and the field of history teaching.
