The aim of this article is to analyse the link between cinema and theatre in Xavier Dolan's Juste la fin du monde (It's Only the End of the World), 2016, a cinematographic adaptation of Jean-Luc Lagarce's eponymous play, and to examine the transition from dramatic text to film narrative, leading to the creation of a distinct and autonomous new work of art. To do so, we rely on the writings of the following authors : Robert Stam and André Gaudreault, to address the issues at stake and the creative dynamics at work in film adaptation ; Gérard Genette, for the transtextual approach ; and Deleuze and Guattari, for the notion of composition plan.

AbstractThe acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a world wide health problem of exceptional magnitude with considerable effect in many areas : individual, social, economic, demographic and cultural. Current literature clearly indicates the emotional impact of the losses occasionnée by those suffering from this fatal disease. There include strong anxiety, fear, anger powerlessness and hopelessness. To this psychological distress is added isolation of AIDS victims. The negative reaction of society contributes to discrimination and stigmatization of these victims. AIDS may be seen as a personnal tragedy which often spells the collapse of family life. The psychosocial repercussions of this disease require intervention and further research with respect to the many unresolved problems generated by this syndrome.

With irony, the artist Dana Wyse retails miracle pills promising sucess and happiness. Putting foward the consumerist pressure exercized by our western societies and its implicit injonctions didacting the way to be (Guarantee the Heterosexuality of your Child, 1997), those capsule refer to the limited notion of choice within pre-established discursive possibilities. They confer, simultaneously, desiring individuals with the power to recognize and to affirm themselves out of normative identities (D.I.Y. Sex Change Kit, 2003). A few incongruities bring the consumer to doubt the truthfulness of the product and to perceive the ironic ambiguity of the work, thus encouraging critical reflections on the concepts of authenticity, becoming and normative identities.

This article deals with lesbian characters from four “anthology pieces” from the drama of Quebec's great feminist period (1976-1985) : the two “Marcelle” in La nef des sorcières, “Les vaches de nuit” in Triptyque lesbien and La lumière blanche. The influence of these characters is analyzed in the light of two distinct lesbian ideologies, both derived from feminist writing of the period and focusing on problems of motherhood and gender. After presenting these two theoretical currents, the article discusses the dramatic innovations embodied by the characters and makes a distinction between two major aesthetic currents: an aesthetics of combat (Pelletier) and an aesthetics of female intimacy (Marchessault), which, despite their dissimilarity, often enriched women's drama of this period by merging in an original way.

More and more girls and women currently engage in sports of masculine tradition like hockey, weightlifting and boxing. Does this transformation in the sport reality have an impact on the dominant norms of femininity? The overall objective of this study was two-fold: first, to verify if Québec adolescents adhere to or contest the norms of femininity carried by the sport institution, and second, to evaluate to what extent their opinion with regard to theses norms are linked to a stereotyped conception of femininity. Two of the processes proposed by Harding (1986) with regard to the social construction of gender, « gender symbolism » and « gender structure », are at the foundation of our research. A qualitative methodology was adopted. Three hundred fifty-four teenagers (180 girls and 174 boys) of fifth grade (high school) from three different socioeconomic milieus wrote an « opinion letter » on their conception of femininity and of girls who play so called « male sports ». A content analysis of the opinion letters reveals that the sport arena is altogether a site of reproduction and of contestation of the gender order. Results confirm gender inequality: the boys being three times numerous than the girls to express a negative judgement with regard to girls playing « male sports ». In contrast, a good majority of girls see in this transgression of the gender sport order an opportunity to contest the social gender order. The analysis of the conceptions of femininity shows however that the adhesion to the gender stereotypes is more salient in the teenagers' imagination than the gendered division of sport practices, and this, among the girls as well as among the boys. The examination of the intersection between gender and socioeconomic milieu suggests that girls from undeserved milieu experience a double domination (gender and class) and that there is a kind of complicity between the girls and the boys of the affluent milieu in the exercise of domination.
