The media concentration in the hands of a handful of national oligarchs as well as the commodification of knowledge induced by competition established between universities have led since the beginning of the 21st century, in Quebec as elsewhere in the West, to the decline of freedom of the press and academic freedom, which nevertheless guarantee informed public opinion and collective decision-making based on knowledge subjected to the test of facts. In response to the triumphant neoliberal ideology, the activism of journalists and academics leads to a dead end, since it also contributes to distorting their functions. While it is certainly necessary to return to methodical investigation and the honest search for the truth, the task is difficult in the advertising regime put in place.

This article examines how wildlife researchers in Quebec made scientific ecology the cornerstone of wildlife management in the second half of the twentieth century. The article pays attention to the transformations within the ministry responsible for hunting and fishing activities, which allowed researchers from within their institutional niche to define a scientific programme focused on acquiring knowledge about wildlife habitats. We also examine changes to the legal framework for wildlife protection centred on habitat conservation to see how this concept has informed the design of management programs for species prized by hunters.

The recognition of the “quality of disabled worker” in the French Labor Code has gradually had the effect of normalizing disabilities in the workplace. Disabled workers have acquired increased protection through laws, regulations, and policies for the purpose of obtaining or keeping a job. Requests for recognition are now widely encouraged by all public and private stakeholders in the field of disability. We are therefore witnessing, in France, the plebiscite of a real employment standard, that of "disabled worker", to govern the work situation of people with disabilities. However, the application of this standard finds significant limits regarding the situation of people with a mental disorder or a chronic disease, leading to a reflection on its necessary evolution.
