Literary criticism, fairly ample for Nelly Arcan's first two novels, Putain (2001) and Folle (2004), but less varied with regards to the author's other accounts (L'enfant dans le miroir, À ciel ouvert, Paradis, clef en main, Burqa de chair), has dealt with a certain number of thematic, generic and scriptural questions: the body in its relationship with abjection, with subjection of the female subject, with “negative” agency, with plastic surgery, prostitution, self-fictionalization strategies, and the re-writing of certain myths of the Western imaginary, among others. The product of a desire to regenerate Arcanian research, the present study locates itself in the context of care ethics, particularly in that which addresses concern for others inevitably based on concern for oneself (the moral dimension of care according to C. Gilligan, F. Brugère, S. Laugier, P. Paperman). Care, in several of Nelly Arcan's writings, proves to be a double-edged sword: if at times it seems possible in the form of an exchange (as a prostitute or a lover), it seems impossible in terms of relational value. The requirement to connect with the other grows to be so excessive that it becomes unbearable for others and for the self.

The story of the prostitute Rahab who comes to the rescue of two Israeli spies by hiding them, and confesses her faith in the victory of YHWH over Jericho, is worthy of attention. Yet this little account seems, at first sight, wrong in its place in the book of Joshua. Located at the beginning of the conquest, it interrupts the triumphant march of Joshua and the sons of Israel by an episode to say the least burlesque. What is the function of this episode ? What does it bring to the plot of the story, to the characterization of the main characters, and to the theology of the book of Joshua ? This article proposes to reread the history of Rahab from a primarily synchronic perspective, trying to answer these questions.

This article looks at the sexual transactions of young people from the point of view of professionals from different fields of social work who are responsible for their socio-educational follow-up. Through the analysis of five focus groups and one individual interview, involving a total of 34 people, the article examines the prevalence of gender norms in their discourse. It highlights how these discourses perpetuate the representation according to which the security and respectability of sexuality rests mainly on the responsibility of girls, thus reproducing a representation of gender relations based on the heterosexual norm and the gender order.

Do bookstore displays constitute modern still lifes ? This is the hypothesis put forward in this article, which sets out to establish a connection between a specific regime of literature and a new relationship to books among readers authors alike. The approach is decidedly nineteenth-century, spanning from Balzac to Catulle Mendès, including the Goncourt brothers and Zola.
