This study examines the distinct and complementary roles of the components of teachers’ sense of personal efficacy (SPE) (instructional strategies deployment, classroom management, student engagement) in relation to their organizational performance (subjective performance, organizational citizenship behaviours individuals [OCBI] and organizations [OCBO]). Data were collected from 250 college teachers in Quebec. The results of the analyses show that only the instructional strategies deployment component of the SPE predict a single component of performance, namely OCBI. The study’s findings support the separate study of SPE components in relation to teachers’ organizational performance, as they do have distinct and complementary roles on organizational performance.

Introduction: Although it brings several benefits, simulation in emergency care can cause significant psychological stress and thus inhibit the learning process. The addition of an educational video (EV) to the briefing would better prepare students. However, the acceptability of an EV as well as its effects are unknown. Objectives: 1) to document the acceptability of an EV to the briefing in emergency care simulation with nursing students, and 2) to measure the effects of the EV on situational anxiety and teamwork. Methods: A randomized post-test experimental design with a control group was conducted with 125 nursing students recruited using a convenience sample, randomly divided into two groups: a) control (n= 50) without viewing of an EV and b) experimental (n= 75), with viewing of an EV. Questionnaires were administered to assess the acceptability of the EV, situational anxiety, and teamwork. Results: The majority of participants of the experimental group recognize the acceptability of the EV. However, no effect of the EV could be demonstrated on situational anxiety (p = 0.24) and teamwork (p = 0.95). Discussion and conclusion: It seems important that the EV is implemented in a supervised manner, including discussions about its content, in order to increase the benefits for the students. Future studies comparing the presentation of an EV with or without discussion surrounding its presentation, as well as before and after the simulation, would provide a better understanding of its influence on situational anxiety and teamwork.

This article explores the strategies used by Indigenous students attending three Canadian universities (in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Manitoba) to find success in their studies. As part of a larger study on the success strategies of students who have been traditionally underrepresented in Canadian universities, this article draws on the responses of students who self-identify as Indigenous and insights from a key informant. We argue that the voices of Indigenous students are essential in the processes of institutional decolonizing and reconciliation and of reimagining universities as inclusive, equitable spaces for Indigenous students and their academic success

Undergraduate research is a “high-impact” educational practice that enriches student learning and facilitates student career advancement. This sequential explanatory mixed methods study, composed of a quantitative online questionnaire followed by qualitative focus group interviews, sought to explore undergraduate student attitudes on research and elicit perceived facilitators and barriers to undergraduate research engagement. The survey respondents (N = 377), all undergraduate health sciences students at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, generally had positive attitudes toward undergraduate research, but had polarized perceptions of its accessibility, supportiveness, and appreciation. Follow-up focus group interviews with selected participants (N = 11) revealed four main themes: (1) the hidden curriculum of undergraduate research, (2) the paucity of meaningful research work for emerging student researchers, (3) the administrative barriers within the undergraduate research landscape, and (4) the inequitable access to undergraduate research opportunities. This study’s findings suggest potential avenues to improve the undergraduate student research experience.

Usually classified as “feel good literature” by critics, Marc Levy books have never been analyzed from the contemporary religiosity angle. This article aims at demonstrating that beyond the “fell-good” aspect, his books stage a true post New Age spirituality. Based on an analysis of And if only it were true... (Et si c’était vrai...) and Vous revoir, this contribution wants to highlight how “fantastic” and “supernatural” registers are based on esoteric discourse and personal development rhetoric. By substituting the search for God with a search for happiness and love, Levy formulates a mythology inspired by New Age, although fundamentally different, due to its individualism and an extreme inner worldly asceticism. The result is a work characteristic of a diffuse religiosity form that might be compared with Logier’s “individuo-globalism”.

The Quebec region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue is greatly affected by the labour shortage. In a context where the mining industry offers highly competitive wages and benefits to its workers, the manufacturing industry, which covets a pool of workers similar to that of the mining industry, is struggling to keep its staff. In response to Rubenstein et al. (2018) and Hom et al. (2017) call to deepen and contextualize the phenomenon of staff retention, this research aims to explore, in the context of regional labour shortage, what are the configurations of the antecedents of the staff retention in factories of Abitibi-Témiscamingue using a cross-sectional configurational approach (Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA)). This research has identified different configurations explaining the intention to stay (or lack thereof) of manufacturing workers and illustrated that the intention to stay of these workers is mainly influenced by intra-organizational antecedents.
