Given that their synagogue remains closed almost all year, that a real estate program threatens them with expropriation and that they are still too few in number to feel affected, how do the members of the Jewish community of Tarbes perceive their future? The synagogue tells the story of the fragility of this group which does not want to give up and tries to carry on a project in its space. The article seeks to identify the range of positions, adopted communally or individually, based on some aspects of their membership in Judaism, which are highlighted here. From indignation to resignation, with some reference to nostalgia, it is claimed there is still interest in a synagogue project, even if tenacity is capable of slowing down a possible relocation.

In the context of human's mobility in the world, Islam's settlement in Quebec becomes a social fact, which breaks from traditional representations of Christians and Muslims relationships. Hence, we ought to wonder how is it possible to renew the communication between the two communities? This paper aims at identifying kinds of dialogue that break away from the belief that both communities are normally disconnected. We envision Quebec as a forum for dialogue meanwhile questioning a possible exchange framework that would facilitate a greater social cohesion.

A major trend in current literature for young readers is the taking into account of children's metaphysical questions. Children are now viewed not as little innocent beings but rather as subjects who contemplate fundamental questions about the meaning of life and the world. At every moment, children experience astonishment in the face of the world. In particular, the question of Truth absorbs them: what is true and what is false? What is the difference between belief and knowledge? And so on. Literature for young readers makes it possible to reflect on these metaphysical issues. Thus elementary school teachers can make available works that deal with these issues and base philosophical discussions on readings of the texts.

Antoine Volodine's novel Alto Solo (1991) raises two fundamental questions : “Who am I ?” and “Who are you ?” These questions address the notion of the self and the other in relation to geographic and psychological place as well as that of speech. The answers to these questions are intrinsic to the distinct characteristics of individual, interacting members of society, which in Alto Solo stir feelings of otherness, anonymity, and even of exile among the fictional characters. The responses to these two questions, whether overt or implicit, yield an aura of social disjunction and alienation, and hence questions of the identity of the individual characters who seem largely remote, their identities more collective than personal.
