Through a confrontation between the collection Les Regrets of Du Bellay, and the narrative Séjour d’Honneur of Octovien de Saint Gelais (which appears to be either the object of comparison or a subtext of the collection), the author re-examines the genesis of sonnet 31 of Les Regrets, with respect to the topos of the island of Circe, allegorised by Saint Gelais as the “Île de Vaine Espérance.” In doing so, the author sheds light on the poem’s background and multiple references. The analysis in turn enlightens some of the poem’s oddities, through references to Franco-Italian politics of the years 1556–57.

Between 1440 and 1640, from 300,000 to 350,000 African slaves were forcefully moved from sub-Saharan Africa to the Iberic Peninsula. Mostly female and young, this population was led to Portugal, to live among different cultural practices-in a society where the smallest religious, ethnic, or cultural difference was a cause of exclusion. How did men and women of foreign origins and cultures share a life, and have children, with the Portuguese, without sharing the society's values? Through exclusion, integration, and assimilation, the African presence in Portugal, from the sixteenth century onwards, created a plural nation and complex identities.

The palliative and end-of-life care approach is recommended for people with end-stage dementia patients (ESDP). However, the quality of the care received is rarely evaluated. Background: Various measurement instruments aiming to assess the quality of end-of-life (EOL) in people with dementia exist. However, none of them are available in their entirety in French. A literature review identified the End-of-life care in dementia (EOLD) as a promising tool. Objective: Translate and culturally adapt the EOLD. Methods: A five-step process was performed: three French translations, a synthesis of the French translations, a reverse translation in English, a committee of experts and a test of the experimental version. Results: While the translation process was relatively straightforward, some items presented translation and adaptation challenges, including "Shortness of breath", "Gurgling" and "Skin breakdown". The difficulties encountered during the translation process were semantic, idiomatic and conceptual. Discussion: The use of a standardized translation process made it possible to produce a French version faithful to the original version. Conclusion: An experimental version of the EOLD in French has been developed. However, other studies are needed to validate the French version of the instrument and assess its psychometric qualities.

Recently, certain cities have created public spaces that recognise women's contribution to modern society, and in some cases, feminist urbanism has become a field of action. This article analyses two cases of public spaces dedicated to feminists: the Place des Montréalaises in Montreal and the Place des Pionnières in Montevideo. The first is a major urban project currently in progress to be built on a motorway viaduct between Old Montreal and the city centre. In Montevideo, the city's progressive administration decided in 2017 to create a public square dedicated to feminists. We analyse the negotiations behind these urban projects, the dynamics between the stakeholders and what this public space means for them. Rooted in a feminist and intersectional approach, we demonstrate how the mobilisation and coordination of women from civil society with municipal femocrats and professionals play an important role in power dynamics.
