Do social-economy enterprises have specific features, a specific kind of organization and specific practices that lessen hardship in the workplace? The authors try to answer this question from the perspective of workplace psychodynamics, a field that studies the mechanisms of workplace hardship. They draw on the example of Tower Colliery, the oldest coal mine still in operation, which was bought out by its employees in 1994 and is now managed as a cooperative. Their study also reveals the particular order of priorities in decision-making in social-economy enterprises. While recognition of the work accomplished and trust towards the organization appear to be fundamental, the limitations of a consensual enterprise are also pointed out. What's important is to create a committed environment where there is room for dissent.

In France, the generation fed of Jap'Anime in the eighties became the first readership of Mangas during the nineties. Some of them have become in the last ten years Asian Drama fans. Digital technology and globalization allowed a worldwide organized community of drama fans, constructed on an effective division of collaborative work at a global scale. Cyber ethnography is made on a forum, observing the way South Korean romantic comedy dramas – still a mysterious cultural object for the French fans – are appropriated. As omnivorous consumers of heterogeneous cultural content as well as intercultural elites of globalizing world, the French drama fans, most of them females, are challenging the cultural hegemony of the American TV series. They claim autonomy in their emotions and cultural tastes against the patriarchal pressure and norms. The pursuit of a specifically female pleasure has a Queer reading potential. French female fans' reception of Asian drama can be understood in terms of a female counter-culture in a digital and global age.

The Web now enables communities in crisis to communicate their version of events directly to an international audience. But vying for media attention can still be fierce. This is why government and rebel websites in the Democratic Republic of Congo must develop strategies aimed at capturing Internet user attention while maintaining their credibility as reliable sources of information. Because the Web is accessible to such a large and varied number of participants, both local and global, information must be couched in terms that can be understood by all, as much by congolese of the RDI as by those of the diaspora and the West. Rather than referring to their own local culture and history, with which many Internet users may not be familiar, these websites use terms which are recognized by people ail over the world (i.e., the Holocaust). In this case, we will show how the medium very much affects the message, and how the structure is modelled by the hypertext.

Because they reveal the limits of family identity transmission mechanisms, religious conversions can inform and nuance the generational dynamics that seem to be at the roots of current radicalization movements. Drawing on the experience of Quebecois youth who have chosen to join Islam, I discuss the hypothesis of “generational divide” (Roy 2002) by examining the negotiations, compromises and adjustments that make up their family relationships, particularly around the issue of celebrating Christmas. I show that the moral critique that leads converts to dissociate themselves from the identity heritage bequeathed by their parents actually brings them closer to their grandparents' family model. This concern to perpetuate a lineage tradition carried by moral values reveals in fact a social and political project based on ideals of conviviality and solidarity.

Philology is used here to establish the historical value of three documents purporting to bear witness to the “discovery” of the Mississippi in 1673 by Louis Jolliet and Jacques Marquette. Two of these 17th-century documents have never been considered, namely a translation entitled Of New France that appeared in the English edition of the last two works by Récollet Louis Hennepin (1698), and a French version of the same text, Relation de la Nouvelle-France 1673, preserved at the Bibliothèque nationale de France in the papers of Abbé Eusèbe Renaudot. Compared with the Brotier 155 version of Jesuit father Dablon's Relation de la decouverte de la Mer du Sud, considered by Jean Delanglez to be the most reliable and oldest, these documents testify to a major rewriting effort that began before August 1, 1674 (the alleged date of dispatch of the presumed “original” document). Their comparison highlights the importance of Hennepin, who held confidential documents and whose works can help us fill in the gaps in official accounts of exploration in the Mississippi River basin. Despite the absence of originals, the variants in these three documents show that the Brotier 155 version is no more valid or even older than its shorter copies. Rather, these variants suggest that Dablon may have drawn on one or more earlier documents to write his Relation, which contradicts the narrative posture that would have us believe that the information he provides came from Jolliet's oral testimony alone.

Non-binary people are gaining visibility in the media scene and among the people we know. Nonetheless, the implications of being non-binary aren't understood by many. A stronger presence in French literature could both raise awareness and provide role models for non-binary people. As few French-language books currently feature non-binary characters, translation can be an interesting tool for inclusion and visibilization. However, translating from a gender-neutral language like English into a gendered language like French brings many challenges. In addition to having to find equivalent terms for English neutral pronouns, translators need to juggle with the inflections of participles and adjectives, as well as with all the gendered nouns in the French language. This might explain why very few texts featuring non-binary characters have been translated into French, despite a relatively large pool of English texts. This article explores different strategies for translating English gender-neutral pronouns (especially the singular they) and how gendered French participles and adjectives have been dealt with in a non-binary context. Among the strategies examined are avoidance, which risks rendering non-binary characters invisible, the use of the third person masculine plural (ils) and its normal verbal and adjectival agreements, which make the text somewhat incongruous, recourse to the impersonal third person singular (on), which creates confusion due to its polysemy, and finally, new pronouns (for example iel) with dual or neutral agreements, which introduce neologisms unfamiliar to many readers.
