Quebecers whose principal language is English show preferences in the area of cultural practices that are quite different from those of the French-speaking majority. In contrast to recent exeperience in most western countries, Quebec anglophones have increased the amount of television that they watch, as well as the amount of time that they spend reading books and newspapers. In contrast, they have attended fewer shows. Their cultural practices have focussed inward toward the home, which supports the hypothesis that they underwent a sort of social implosion following the emigration that took place among their ranks and the resulting demographie age increase.

The order to be oneself is an essential standard in the contemporary societies. In a context of relative decline of the prescribed identities, everyone is incited to make a specific work to discover his true identity. This identity, real mythology of our time, is thought as hidden and singular. The individuals try to approach it with identity experiments. We shall use in this text a research about the French fans of the Beatles.

Synthesizing interviews conducted in the summer of 2023, the article presents the human relations, artistic relationships and musical works of three Quebec composers who paid tribute to Serge Provost: À S. (2017) and Le signe de l'ombre (2022) by Hans Martin, La princesse n'avait d'yeux que pour la profondeur de l'univers (2019) by Jimmie LeBlanc and Voies impénétrables (2022) by Michel Gonneville are examined in their creative contexts, through the musical elaboration and according to the specific intentions of each composer, in order to match the different ways of rendering not only Provost's influence and teaching, but also the harmonic colors and technical procedures of his works. By bringing together the universes of these different composers, the present research provides a historical and aesthetic context for an important figure in Quebec's contemporary musical landscape.

Meyer; he also presents an original analytical and operational grid based upon five categories.

SummaryBased on the findings of the last two studies on cultural practices in France (Pratiques culturelles des Français, 1989,1997), we propose to present cultural fields applicable to the French population as a whole, before questioning the hybridization of “legitimate” culture. What forms does this take ? What artistic and social mutations sustain it ? What meaning(s) should it be given ? Indeed, the means of production, distribution and legitimization of cultural works and products as well as the forms of participation in cultural life seem to have undergone significant changes over the last few decades. Thus, the compound representation of the homologous relations between social milieus and cultural consumption inherited from critical sociology — learned culture, average culture, popular culture — has increasing difficulty in taking into account the complexity of the symbolic properties of works and the diversity of people's cultural backgrounds.
