Il peut devenir singulièrement éclairant d’interroger autour d’un même thème, celui de la peur de la mort, la philosophie grecque, le bouddhisme et l’Ancien Testament. Les quelques notes proposées ici souhaitent attirer l’attention sur un article dans lequel Charles David Axelrod s’attache à tracer un parcours lucide à travers ces diverses traditions religieuses et philosophiques, afin de mieux comprendre l’exhortation qu’elles nous font de nous préparer à la mort.

Abstract

It may prove quite enlightening to ask questions on the same theme, in this case the fear of death, to Greek philosophy, Buddhism and the Old Testament. The few notes suggested here aim to gain attention on an article in which Charles David Axelrod explores the prescription to practice death in religious and philosophical texts, in an effort to locate its inherent rationality.
