Résumé

L’histoire de l’environnement en Nouvelle-France est abordée ici de manière exploratoire en suivant trois pistes’: 1) l’unification microbienne du monde et les épidémies, dont la virulence est à mettre en rapport avec l’absence d’animaux domestiques (à l’exception du chien); 2) l’histoire du chien’: races amérindiennes disparues, et fonctions pour la chasse, le transport, la guerre, la religion, l’alimentation, l’hygiène; 3) la transformation, en Amérique, du rapport à l’eau, que l’on cesse de craindre en même temps que l’on commence à la polluer.

Abstract

The history of the environment in New France is approached in an exploratory manner along three lines: 1) the microbial unification of the world and the epidemics whose virulence is to be related to the absence of domestic animals (with the exception of dogs); 2) the history of the dog: lost native American breeds, uses in hunting, transport, war, religion, and hygiene; and 3) the transformation, in America, of the relation to water, which ceases to be feared at the same time it begins to be polluted.
